J Dilla – The Diary

dilla-anthem dilla-anthem-backThe Estate of James Yancey, also known as J Dilla/Jay Dee, has announced the release of the late hip-hop producer’s long-lost vocal album, The Diary.

The album’s tracks derive from multi-track masters found on 2-inch tape following Dilla’s 2006 passing.  Mixed by engineer Dave Cooley and using Dilla’s original demos as his guide, the album resurrects the vision of J Dilla.

The Diary is an album of vocal performances recorded circa the early 2000s over beats by several producers, including Madlib, Pete Rock, Nottz, House Shoes, Karriem Riggins and others.

The album’s first single “Anthem” b/w “Trucks” is now available as a pre-sale at rappcats.com and will be released on vinyl early this spring.
